#SmallBusinessSpotlight
By Amanda DiGiacomo
- What is the name of the business? What is the owner’s name?
Yes Girl Boutique Lorely Davila
2. What services or products do you offer?
I offer women’s clothing!
3. How long as the business been open?
November 2018
4. What inspired you to start your own business?
I studied abroad Summer ’18 and got really inspired by the fashion there. The “traditional rules” that are implied here in the US, did not apply there. I got to dress freely out there, and I wanted to bring it back home!
5. What did you do to develop the skills to start/run your business?
I took a lot of the concepts I learned through my business classes at CSUB and read a lot of books on it.
6. Share with us one of your biggest success to date?
I feel one of my biggest successes has been selling out of 2 different items in a little more than a week. It was a great feeling.
7. Share with us one of your biggest challenges to date?
Getting my logo created was a challenge. The original designer, for a few weeks, would not deliver. She had some personal problems going on at home, and while I was empathetic, it kept pushing my launch date further back. So I had to go with someone else, and I’m glad I did because I could not be happier with my logo!
8. What is the nicest thing a customer has said about your business?
That I have the cutest packaging! I want each shipment to feel like you’re opening up a present. I take the time to wrap everything in tissue paper, add confetti and write a personal “thank you” note to all of my customers.
9. Who inspires you to keep going?
My mom and boyfriend Leo inspire me. They literally do not let me give up! & they’re always there to lend a helping hand when things get a little cray cray.
10. What advice do you have for someone who wants to start their own business?
Do your research. Don’t think it will “just happen” and everything will “fall into place.” It’s a lot of sacrifice time and money wise, but if you’re willing, the pay-off is so so good! I love meeting girls from everywhere who want to work with me and wear my clothing.
Thanks for the continued support. Stayed tuned for our next week’s small business spotlight.
